Free golf shot tracer

Add a tracer to your golf video, right here in the browser. Tap the ball a few times on its way up and the line is fitted to its real flight, with drag, spin and the camera behind you. Zoom in to follow the ball while you film and the line stays pinned to the scene. Then export the clip for Instagram, TikTok or the group chat. No app, no sign-up.

Your video never leaves your device. This page opens it, traces it and exports it, and nothing is uploaded.

Example: a computer-drawn test shot, filmed with a 2.2x zoom, keyed three times and exported on this page.
WHY THE LINE STAYS ON THE BALL

A two-tap tracer draws an arc from where the ball starts to where it lands and hopes the middle is right. This one fits a ball flight to your video: every time you key the ball, the line has to pass through it on that frame, at that moment. The flight it fits has drag slowing the ball, backspin holding it up and sidespin bending it, seen from a phone behind you, so it climbs fast off the face and flattens as it flies away, the way a real shot does on screen. The dashed part is the fit's guess at the rest of the flight, and each key makes it better. Three keys usually put the line on the ball the whole way.

THE CAMERA CAN MOVE

When you open a clip, the page first reads how the camera moved, frame by frame, and shows you the tracker at work: the corners it finds, the ones it matches from frame to frame, the ones it throws out because they move on their own (the golfer, a swaying tree), and a small map of where the lens is pointing and how far it has zoomed. Your keys are pinned to the scene, not the glass, so the line rides through a zoom, a pan or a shaky hand. On a frame where the picture smears too much to read, the line hides rather than sit in the wrong place. It all runs on your device, in a background thread of this page.

HOW IT WORKS
  1. Let it read the camera. A few seconds; SKIP if the phone was on a tripod.
  2. Scrub to the strike. Drag along the strip under the video. Hold Shift (or slide your finger away from the strip) for finer steps; the arrows and the arrow keys step one frame.
  3. Hold on the ball. Press and hold until the loupe shows, slide onto the ball, lift.
  4. Scrub up the flight and hold on the ball, as often as you like. The dashed line is a guess at the rest of the flight, and each key makes it better.
  5. Mark where it ends. Tap LANDING, scrub to where it lands (or where the ball leaves the shot) and hold there.
  6. Shape it if you want: drag the ring at the top or the two bend handles. Then PLAY, and export.
WHAT TO FILM

Film from behind the ball, down the line. A tripod or a phone propped on your bag is easiest, but zooming in to follow the ball is fine. Keep the whole flight in the frame if you can; if the ball leaves the shot, mark the end on the last frame it is in. A clip of ten or twenty seconds is plenty: the camera is read for the whole clip, a few seconds for every ten.

BROWSERS

Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari (on iPhone too, iOS 16.4 or later) export an MP4 at the clip's own frame rate, up to 1080 by 1920. The sound comes along where the browser can encode it: Chrome and Edge do, and a browser that cannot says so and exports it silent. Older browsers without a video encoder for web pages record the clip in real time instead, without sound. The exported video carries a small corsai mark and this page's address in the corner.
